Umang Goel

Founder and Yogini (E-RYT 200)

Umang Goel was born in Patna, India and has been exposed to Yogic Philosophy her whole life. She has studied under several Yogis in India. Because of these traditional and authentic Yoga teachings, for Umang Yoga is more than just a daily practice; it is a way that can be applied to every aspect of living. Umang entered the corporate world in the United States for some years and later realized that this was NOT her true calling. Even though she has resided in the United States, she has never left her roots behind, one of them being Yoga. She courageously left the corporate world to live her true passion and to pass it on to individuals from all walks of life.  Over the years because of her unwavering and immense passion for Yoga, she has helped countless individuals who have yearned for something more in their lives since 2009. She has aided those with a desire to become healthier and more physically, emotionally and spiritually fit – to those who have been suffering with physical disabilities, weight problems, anxiety and stress related issues, and a myriad of other ailments.  She founded Wellness Haven in San Ramon as a home base for all those who want to learn “Authentic Yoga”, realize self-growth and self-actualization through her teachings. Her Certifications speak for themselves as Umang Goel is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).  She has accumulated over 4,000 teaching hours in Yoga, Breathing & Meditation. She skillfully incorporates both a Yin style of holding poses as well as Vinyasa style of breath-movement synchronicity. She blends the essential aspects of traditional yoga traditions in “one hour” yoga, breathing, and meditation sessions. An important foundation to Umang’s philosophy is that spiritual aspects of yoga are essential and go hand in hand with the physical practice (She also brings her life coaching skills into her practice). She practices and teaches yoga, pranayama, meditation and nutrition 7 days a week, with enthusiasm, passion, and joy!

“I grew up in San Ramon and have a B.S. in Engineering from UC San Diego. Having taken poor care of myself through college, and with lingering injuries and mental and emotional fatigue, I decided it was time to make some changes. That is when I started my yoga journey in January 2013 here at Umang’s Wellness Haven. My original intention was solely to nurture my body back to health, but months of dedicated practice later I found that there was more happening. I experienced greater mental clarity, joy, and peace of mind than ever before. I wanted to share my experience with loved ones and with anyone else who would listen, but I didn’t quite know how to communicate what was happening for me. Now here I am in 2014 enrolled in teacher training. I’m excited to have the opportunity to show you the gifts that yoga can give. If you are looking for physical healing, yoga can surely help you. But if somewhere along the road you find that you are looking for more, for emotional and spiritual well-being, that is where things get exciting =D. My passions outside of yoga include traveling, tennis, hiking, running, and any sort of adventure activity from skydiving, white water rafting, kayaking, zip lining, to whatever else there is out there that I haven’t tried yet. Basically anything that gets me outdoors. Nothing beats nature.”

“I grew up in the Bay Area and have a BA in Theatre Arts from Cal State East Bay.  Growing up and during college, I have taken many classes in gymnastics, dance movement, ballet, and martial arts. I believe yoga supplements many other physical activities because it combines grace, flexibility, and balance with strength, stamina, and focus. I became interested in yoga not only to physically challenge myself, but primarily to receive the mental clarity  I knew I was lacking in my life. I was suffering from anxiety and sleep deprivation and I did not feel comfortable taking medicine. When I began yoga, within 3 months my friends and family told me they noticed a change in my mental outlook on life. I felt happier, less shy, more confident, stronger physically and I was learning how to quiet my over active mind. I believe yoga can help relieve depression, prevent anxiety, help with physical pain, and allow one to find peace and joy in his or her heart. I look forward to sharing with others the energizing and harmonious blend of benefits yoga brings to life. In my spare time, I love to travel, hike, read, cook, and spend time with my husband and my family.”

“I was born and raised in India and received my Masters in Science in India.  My father, a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, practices yoga and meditation every day since he was young, and I have always followed him on this path and yoga has been a part of my life since childhood.  I currently live in San Ramon with my family and Quincy, our puppy.  I love the San Francisco bay area and enjoy being with my family and friends.  In addition to yoga, I am passionate about singing and dancing.  I look forward to completing my Yoga teacher’s training and serve the community on a path to health and happiness. I am extremely excited to be here at Umang’s Wellness Haven where I have been practicing yoga for nearly two years now. In January of 2014, I further enrolled in the teacher’s training program- this is an incredible experience training with an awesome mentor and fabulous classmates!! Thanks to my best friend who introduced me to this studio, I feel privileged and thankful to learn and practice yoga at Wellness Haven!!”

“I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India and earned my Bachelors in Electronics and Telecommunication from Mumbai University. I grew up in a very spiritual family with a lot of influence from my grandparents who firmly believed in simple yogic life. At age 12, I enrolled in my first yoga camp conducted by Yoga Vidya Dham, Nashik. I went on to earn my yoga teaching credentials and later assisted in teaching yoga for 3 years in my local community before my higher education studies took precedence. Over the years I was yearning to get back to practicing yoga, not just for the physical fitness aspect of it but also for mental peace and tranquility. I joined Umang’s Wellness Haven in summer 2013 and experienced immense benefits of yoga within a few months. I enrolled in the 2014 yoga teachers’ training program as I felt compelled to teach and show others how yoga can help them improve their physical and mental health to live a vibrant, healthy lifestyle. I am very thankful to Umang for providing me this opportunity. I am delighted to be in this engaging teacher training program with such a talented mentor and a remarkable group of student-teachers.”

“I was born and raised in Karnataka, India. I grew up in a spiritual environment from my childhood. After my Bachelors at San Jose State, CA, it came to me that we can extract knowledge from yoga into our everyday busy lives and make it harmonious for our good health, happiness, and living life to the fullest. I am so privileged and grateful to have the Yoga Teacher Training program to unfold what I have to give to myself and to many others. Thanks to Umang for creating this flexible opportunity to make this dream come true for myself, and also for my awesome fellow team members. “I was born and brought up in Bangalore, India. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and have been interested in matters of health and well being. During my college days I enrolled in aerobics classes and have been trying my best to stay fit ever since. I moved to the United States 20 years ago and am currently living in San Ramon with my husband, my 11-year-old Son, and our family dog Buddy. I worked as a Pharmacist for about 5 years. In the meantime, I was also developing an interest in the culinary arts especially plated desserts and pastries. I enrolled in California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and graduated as a Bakery & Pastry Chef.
I came to Wellness Haven Yoga Studio through two of my good friends. I enrolled in the 3 month Nutrition, Breathing, Meditation & Yoga Class Package. Umang has inspired me from the very beginning. My Journey so far has been a very fruitful one. Within a few weeks I realized the benefits of eating right. I felt light, energetic and flexible. Good nutrition in conjunction with yoga is a very beautiful experience. I loved the whole program so much that I wanted to learn everything there is to know about yoga and joyfully enrolled in the Yoga Teacher’s Training Program. I know I can do this because of Umang.
My hobbies include cooking, reading, entertaining, taking naps, walking, watching movies, and petting every dog that I see.”
